About the Event

Join us for an engaging two-day workshop as we explore the nuanced spectrum of physical storytelling—from intimacy to violence and back again. Led by DCF's teacher Anastasia Trizna, an accomplished actor, intimacy coordinator, stage combat instructor, and stunt performer, this workshop will equip participants with a variety of valuable skills. The ultimate purpose of stage combat is to tell stories that can illuminate complex issues—whether personal and interpersonal struggles or broader societal and structural challenges. This workshop will examine how practices from intimacy directing and coordinating can enhance our performance, fostering more nuanced, honest, and versatile performance.

Participants will engage in practical exercises designed to develop skills for working with staged violence and intimacy. These methods will help tap into deeper emotional levels and physical embodiment, allowing for richer storytelling. Through a progression of solo and partnered exercises, the workshop will provide concrete tools for building trust, spontaneity, and emotional authenticity on stage. Throughout the workshop, participants will also create short scenes and choreographies. They will investigate how various techniques can be used to develop compelling characters, deepen emotional expression, and bring authenticity to physical interactions and representation.

Using these principles as a creative framework, participants will learn transferable techniques that can enrich their work as performers across various disciplines. Saturday
