About the Event

Join Dramatic Combat Finland for German Longsword Fight Sunday to explore new aesthetics of fighting with the longsword!

Immerse yourself in the martial principles of the oldest German masters and learn how to adapt them for stage combat. Discover unique sword handling techniques that challenge familiar ideas about weight and speed, often seen in films and video games. Despite common misconceptions, the longsword (or any sword realy) is not as heavy and slow as one might believe!

Experience a fresh approach grounded in martial arts to create captivating movement and choreography. While this course follows the safety protocols and curriculum of the Nordic Stage Fight Society, please note that the longsword techniques offered during this workshop, differ significantly from typical broadsword styles. Teachers: Max J. Flossman and Ville Seivo (NSFS/DCF) Max specialises in the joint venture of historical European martial arts (HEMA) and dramatic combat, strongly feeling that both approaches can benefit tremendously from each other. Where there already has been a shift in demand for authenticity in some Asian and other more contemporary martial arts, the depiction of old European fighting styles yet leaves room aplenty for improvement.

Max has been a member of the Nordic Stage Fight Society for 16 years and is currently about to conclude his education to become an official fight instructor within the NSFS. He has been teaching HEMA in Germany for over 10 years, is an active member of the German historical fencing community, participates and teaches at national and international gatherings and tournaments, and has an official state-approved license as a HEMA teacher.

His main weapons include the Longsword (High German School), Sidesword and Buckler, Dagger, Grappling, Rapier, Quarterstaff, and Polearms. Ville is a Finnish Actor, Stunt performer and coordinator, and NSFS Stage Combat Instructor. Ville has been working professionally as an actor since 2004, and has been doing stage fight with Nordic Stage Fight Society since 2011. Summer Workshop 2024 he taught Block 3 Theatrical Martial Arts and beginner rapier, with additional classes on firearms. is a Finnish Actor, Stunt performer and coordinator, and NSFS Stage Combat Instructor. Ville has been shooting professionally since 2020 at Osuva gun range. He has been teaching weapons handling and shooting techinque to actors and performers, both with live pistols and safety props.
